Raised in Massachusetts, now living in LA, dreamy folk-pop songwriter Jake Manzi stopped in on High Plains Morning on his way down to Turkey, Texas for a gig with his buddy Caleb. We had a blast, and we're looking forward to his next jaunt through the FLATLANDS (because we are getting him a SHOW next time).

As a kid, Brue posed as “Little Justin” on Justin Townes Earle’s 2014 album Single Mothers. After the tragic loss of his idol and mentor in 2020, he was entrusted to archive Earle’s journals. His latest album pays tribute to the man he credits for making him into the songwriter that he is today.

On Saturday evening, April 18, 2026, High Plains Public Radio hosted our second poetry event of 2026 at our studios in Garden City, Kansas. Texas Panhandle poet Seth Wieck was the featured poet, with additional readings from Linda Lobmeyer of Garden City, a poet, attorney, and magistrate, who’s published one book of poetry, and Ramona McCallum, also a Garden City poet, and a creative writing instructor at Garden City High School.

We all know Steinbeck, but not many know the name "Sanora Babb" — but we should! Don't miss this year's Garry L. Nall Lecturet this Thursay night at 7p in the Legacy Hall of WTAMU's Jack B. Kelley Student Center, where Dust Bowl scholar Iris Dunkle shares the little-known history of Babb, a female author whose writings on "The Dirty 30s" stayed largely unknown until the 21st. century!
