Today on High Plains Morning, we hosted Shawn Kennedy, president of the local nonprofit Texas Panhandle Art Education Association (TPAEA), to hear more about the “Get Connected: ARTs Social Mixer” happening in Amarillo tomorrow, August 12 from 5:30-7:00 pm CT at the Amarillo Museum of Art (2200 S Van Buren, Amarillo). The goal of the event is to help educators, students, artists and community members get involved in the area arts community.
The event will provide drinks and snacks, and they’re featuring a short arts lecture by Dr. Amy Von Lintel at 6:15 pm CT. She’ll discuss the current exhibit on display at AMoA, Women of Abstract Expressionism in the American West. She collaborated with Dr. Bonnie Roos on a book detailing work from this collection; it’s set to be released in the coming months.
TPAEA strives to provide opportunities in the creative arts, as well as to grow the cultural ecology of the High Plains. By inviting a variety of arts organizations, Shawn hopes to get the public invigorated and encouraged to become patrons and participants of our many creative outlets in the TX panhandle. This includes upcoming gallery openings, museum shows, artist lectures, film screenings, camps, competitions, conferences, public art, mural initiatives and more.
