Consolidated Nuclear Security is the new Pantex Plant Contractor according to a recent article in the Amarillo Globe-News.  The Government Accountability Office rejected the third contract protest by a representative of Babcock and Wilcox Co. who currently operate the Carson County nuclear weapons plant.

The GAO’s decision cleared a path for Consolidated Nuclear Security to begin transitioning as management and operations contractor for the Texas Panhandle plant and the Y-12 National Security Complex in Tennessee.

Officials from B&W say they plan no further challenges of the contract award.

Pantex employs 3,100 workers dismantling, upgrading, and modifying nuclear weapons for the NNSA.  It also develops, tests, and fabricates high-explosive components.  The plant also stores thousands of plutonium weapons cores.

More detailed information about the transition can be found at the Amarillo Globe-News.
