Blue Bell's Largest Plant Resumes Operations

Brett Coomer

Texas ice cream maker Blue Bell resumed operations last week at its largest plant, reports Reuters. The plant had previously been shut down due to a listeria outbreak. Six months ago, the outbreak halted the company's production and caused a panic among customers.

The Brenham, Texas, plant is the third of the ice cream-maker’s facilities to restart operations. Over the past few months, Blue Bell has resumed production at its Alabama and Oklahoma facilities. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has cited Blue Bell with sanitation problems at all its plants, with the worst noted at the Brenham plant.

Blue Bell voluntarily recalled all products in April after 10 cases of listeria were linked to the company. Three of those sickened later died. Blue Bell started making ice cream in Texas 108 years ago.
