Wheat harvest is in full swing across the High Plains and according to Kansas Wheat, yields in the Sunflower State have been a mixed bag.
According to day 12 of the Kansas Wheat Harvestreports, Irsik and Doll Feed Service of Pierceville reported yields of 30 to 40 bushels per acre, while Mid State Farmers Coop of Rush Center reported average yields of 45 to 50 bushels per acre. The highest average yields reported by the WaKeeney branch of Frontier Ag, Inc., were in the 40s.
Hamilton County Farmer Jason Ochs, meanwhile, reported yields of 50 bushels per acre, which he said is better than the county’s average. He also said acres planted later are faring better than those planted early on.
According to USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service, for the week ending June 25, 2017, winter wheat condition in Kansas rated 8 percent very poor, 15 poor, 31 fair, 40 good, and 6 excellent.
