HB 5 Requires All Texas Students to Have a 90% Attendance Rate

The reduction of testing and change in graduation requirements are parts yet to be implement of Texas House Bill 5, however the attendance requirement was immediately implemented according to KUT News

This change requires all students—kindergarten through 12th grade to attend class 90% of the time. 

Debbie Ratcliffe with the Texas Education Agency says the change promotes more consistent learning among students.  

The Urban Policy Research Center at UT-Austin, recently released a study finding that HB 5 could negatively affect minority students.
