In Heated Senate Battle, Ted Cruz Outraises Beto O’Rourke in 3rd Quarter

In the third quarter of fundraising, U.S. Senator Ted Cruz outraised the Democrat who is trying to unseat him, reports The Texas Tribune.

Beto O’Rourke, the Spanish-speaking, Ivy League-educated former punk rocker from El Paso, has gained a good deal of national attention lately for his unorthodox campaign to challenge Cruz.

But, despite the good press for the Democrat, Ted Cruz raised $2 million dollars last quarter, compared to O’Rourke’s 1.7 million. However, the numbers don’t tell the full story, as O’Rourke’s grassroots campaign has foresworn all money from political action committees.

So, while Cruz has three separate super PACs contributing to his $2 million total, O’Rourke’s war chest is filled exclusively with the result of over 33,000 individual contributions. The new numbers represent a turnaround for the Cruz campaign, who was outperformed financially in the second quarter.
