The earliest political primary in the United States is in Texas this year, and that means candidates in the Lone Star State have only a few weeks to win over the votes of their potential constituents.
As the San Antonio Express-News reports,Republican and Democratic primaries will be held in just eight weeks. That means, given Texas’s large population and outsize influence on national affairs, the state will likely be at the center of the national political conversation for the next two months.
On March 6, Texans will decide which of the numerous Democratic candidates will challenge Greg Abbott for the governorship in November. Voters will also determine who the candidates will be for numerous statewide offices.
Closer to home, Panhandle residents will decide whether State Sen. Kel Seliger will stand for re-election in November, or whether he will be toppled by conservative upstart Victor Leal or former Midland Mayor Mike Canon.
