Early voting began yesterday in Texas, ahead of the state’s March 2 primary, which is the earliest in the nation.
As The Houston Chronicle reports,state electoral officials are warning residents to know ahead of time what is needed to make your voice heard.
In a statement, Secretary of State Rolando Pablos said, “It is imperative that all Texans wishing to cast a vote start early and undertake the necessary preparations to be able to vote.”
In order to participate, voters must bring one of seven accepted forms of ID to the polling place:
• Texas Driver License issued by the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS)
• Texas Election Identification Certificate issued by DPS
• Texas Personal Identification Card issued by DPS
• Texas Handgun License issued by DPS
• United States Military Identification Card containing the person's photograph
• United States Citizenship Certificate containing the person's photograph
• United States Passport (book or card)
There are several high-profile races on the ballot, including the contest for Texas Governor, where Democratic voters will be expected to choose from 12 candidates. Ballots in the Amarillo area will also feature the hotly contested Republican primary for Kel Seliger’s seat in the State Senate.
