Texas voters participated in a runoff election on Tuesday, with decisions being finalized in both major statewide races and local Panhandle races.
Statewide, in the race to decide Gov. Greg Abbot’s Democratic challenger this November, Former Dallas County Sheriff Lupe Valdez defeated Texas businessman Andrew White. If she’s victorious this November, CNN notes,Valdez would be the state’s first lesbian and first Latina governor.
According to The Texas Tribune, in most of the House Republican primary runoffs across the state, hardline conservatives lost out to the more moderate candidate. Here in the Panhandle, results in the Potter County Republican primary followed expectations set in March’s primary elections.
As The Amarillo Globe-News reports,Pamela Sirmon defeated Steven Denny in the race for the 320th District Court. Meanwhile, Walt Weaver beat Len Walker for the No. 1 Court-at-Law judgeship, while Matt Hand defeated Wade Overstreet for the No. 2 spot.
