As election day approaches, the two most populous counties in the Texas Panhandle are seeing record numbers of voters registering to cast ballots.
As MyHighPlains reports,both Potter and Randall Counties have seen the highest number of registrants ever—this despite the lack of a presidential candidate on the ballot.
The high number of registration applications only underscores the importance of what many observers have called an exceptionally momentous midterm election.
Potter County, which encompasses the northern part of Amarillo, is expected to receive at least 57,000 registrations, outpacing 2016’s figure of 54,000.
Meanwhile, Randall County, home to the southern half of Amarillo, has seen almost 88,000 registrations this year. 2016’s election saw only 85,000.
