Pot dispensaries aren’t allowed in the tiny town of Hugo, Colorado. But the active ingredient in Marijuana has still found a way into the city limits. Tetrahydrocannabinol, better known as THC, has been found in the town's water supply,reports CNN.
The active element appeared in field water tests. THC is the principal psychoactive chemical in cannabis. Possible effects from short-term ingestion include impaired coordination, increased anxiety, hallucinations or paranoia. These are, however, worst case scenario effects.
While marijuana is legal in the state of Colorado, towns and counties can elect to disallow its sale. Both the town of Hugo and Lincoln County have elected to do so.
Officer Michael Yowell of the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office said it hasn’t been confirmed that the contamination was deliberate. Testing continues to determine the level of concentration.
The FBI are assisting Lincoln County's investigation.
