Oklahoma to Open First Women's Clinic in 40 Years

Sue Ogrocki

Oklahoma has opened its first new abortion clinic in over forty years, reports Refinery29.

In fact, Gerald Ford was president the last time Oklahoma opened a new family planning clinic. The Trust Women South Wind Women's Center will provide many services to women, including abortions, Ob/Gyn care, family planning, adoption services, and emergency contraception.

Trust Women's founder and CEO said there has traditionally been a lack of access to reproductive health care in Oklahoma. In fact, she said, there is a lack of health care across the board. “It's hard for women who want to give birth to find Ob/Gyns to help them deliver their babies,” she added.

The new clinic will have an uphill battle. Oklahoma has passed some of the “most far-reaching anti-abortion bills in the country.” These include mandatory waiting periods, bans on different methods of abortion, and a requirement that abortion providers have admitting privileges at a nearby hospital.
