Hours After Odessa Shooting, Texas Loosens Gun Laws

Mere hours after a West Texas mass shooting left at least seven dead, the State of Texas loosened gun restrictions.

As CNN reports,a series of new laws went into effect on Sunday, only a day after a shooter killed seven and injured at least 20 in Odessa, including a 17-month-old girl.

The laws were passed this spring, before the Odessa shooting, and before the El Paso shooting last month, which left 22 dead.

One new law will allow licensed gun owners to store guns and ammo in a locked vehicle in a school parking lot.  Another law will allow licensed handgun owners to carry their weapons into churches and other places of worship. Another law says landlords can’t prevent their tenants from legally owning guns.

Texas has been the site of four of the 10 deadliest mass shootings in modern US history.
