Christians in Liberal, Kansas, Reject Bombers' Ideology

The ironically named Liberal, Kansas, couldn’t be much more conservative, The Daily Beast noted this week.

The town is packed with evangelical churches, and “Back the Badge” signs dot lawns in support of the Blue Lives Matter movement. But the recent discovery of a bomb plot against Somali Muslims by three locals who called themselves “the Crusaders” has caused the town’s residents to rally around the Muslims in nearby Garden City.

“We, the Christian community, certainly don’t condone this,” said one Liberal resident.

“The people from the Somali community come over and we help them with government documents. Obviously those men don’t believe in the same God as we do,” said a Liberal pastor, referring to the arrested plotters.

But, insofar as the local Christian community has stood up against the homegrown terror movement, they also find themselves conflicted. “We’re witnessing a historic change,” the pastor, who wished to remain anonymous, said. “The Constitution was written by Christians. A lot of people don’t like to admit it that, but it’s true. It’s not compatible with a fully Sharia way of life.”
