The Many Ways We Are Injured During the Holidays

The numbers blog fivethirtyeight.com posted some interesting facts about all the different ways we get injured during the holidays. Every year during the most wonderful time of the year, people head to the emergency room in droves.

According to the National Electronic Injury Surveillance System, electric Christmas decorations are the most dangerous holiday hazard. These decorations, including Christmas tree lights, account for 38% of holiday injuries. Non-electric decorations are a close second though, accounting for 35% of emergency room visits. Artificial Christmas trees are responsible for 14% of injuries, and Christmas tree stands for two percent. Seasonal decorations excluding Christmas account for 11%. But don’t think because the holiday is over you’re safe. Nearly half of all Christmas-related injuries were the result of a fall while decorating or putting decorations away. So be careful this holiday season.
