US Naval War College

T. Boone Pickens is selling his ranch, according to The Dallas Morning News.

The 89-year-old energy magnate, a graduate of Amarillo High School, values his Mesa Verde ranch at $250 million dollars. The ranch stretches across 65,000 acres in the northeastern Panhandle.

There, Pickens has entertained celebrities and CEOs. The property contains mesas, man-made lakes, rivers, waterfalls, and an aqueduct. There is also a two-story pub, a lodge featuring a private movie theater, a wildlife habitat, a kennel that houses 40 dogs, and a private airport. In recent decades, Pickens has given over a billion dollars—the majority of his wealth—to various charities and educational organizations.

The profit from the sale of the Mesa Verde ranch is expected to flow into the Pickens philanthropic funds as well.
