While Kansas is often the topic of jokes – including its appearance in National Lampoon’s Vacation – the small Kansas town of Coolidge, near the Colorado state line, has become a popular stop for westward travelers.
As The Wichita Eaglereports, Coolidge is one of those towns you can drive through – on gravel roads in this case - in less than a minute. And in the National Lampoon movie, was painted as “Hickville, USA.”
But the small town of 99 is on its way to living up to at least part of its name with the help of Lori Lennen, who is on a mission to make it cool. Lennen owns the Trail City Bed and Breakfast – a four-room B&B consisting of two log cabins.
And that has brought people from all over the world, including a Swiss banker, to the area.
Lennen also hopes to one day transform an antique store dubbed Cousin Eddie’s Visitor Center into a quirky road trip stop filled with National Lampoon memorabilia.
