In conjunction with National Hispanic Heritage Month in September, HPPR was so excited to host a native of Garden City, Kansas—who’s also an award-winning authorDennis Raphael Garcia. He’s here as part of his High Plains book tour across the region, sharing stories form his book: Marine, Public Servant, Kansan: The Life of Ernest Garcia. It tells the story of his cousin, a Latino American who exemplifies the grit and spirit of the High Plains. From humble beginnings, “Ernie” became the first Hispanic U.S. Senate Sergeant at Arms. This book was recently named a finalist for the prestigious National Latino Book Awards for Best Biography.
