Amarillo ranks the 14th best city to start a business said a recent article in the Amarillo Globe-News.

The rating was done by business website WalletHub.  The site used 14 metrics to gauge the entrepreneurial opportunities in 150 of the nation’s largest cities.

Amarillo scored well in small business ending, affordable residential real estate, long average workday, low cost of living, corporate Texas, employee availability, workforce education, and number of businesses per capita.

P.J. Pronger, director of West Texas A&M University’s Small Business Development Center, said Amarillo’s cost of living could potentially attract talent to Amarillo, but programs such as those with Amarillo Economic Development Corp. make a bigger impact.

“For a community our size, we probably have more resources than most cities in the country,” he said.

Jacksonville, Fla., is the best city to start a business.  Amarillo scored between Port St. Lucie, Fla., and Colorado Springs, Colo.  El Paso was number 11, Lubbock- 34, and Oklahoma City-12.
