Texas Tops Nation in Job Growth

Texas now leads the nation in job growth, according to new numbers from the Texas Workforce Commission.

As The Dallas Morning-News reports, the Lone Star State’s unemployment rate dropped slightly to 4.6 percent, which puts Texas slightly higher than the national rate of 4.4 percent. However, Texas performed better than most of the country.

Only 10 states saw their jobless rates go down. In June, the Texas economy added over 40,000 jobs.

It remains to be seen if the positive trend will continue through the upcoming political turmoil. Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick plans to introduce his contentious bathroom bill into the special legislative session this week, a measure which many business leaders view as discriminatory.

If the bill passes, some analysts have warned the state’s economic momentum could be stymied by corporations leaving or avoiding the state.
