A Fort Carson-based soldier has died in an overseas training-related incident in South Korea.

Staff Sgt. Kelly Richards, 32, was a health care specialist with the 3rd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, and had been on deployment in Kuwait since February. He was in South Korea at Camp Casey to compete for his Expert Field Medical Badge.

Richards is originally from Michigan and spent 14 years in the Army.

In addition to his most recent deployment, Richards had also been deployed to Romania, Afghanistan and Iraq.

Fort Carson officials say the incident is under investigation.
