Downtown Amarillo revitalization leaders recently heard consultant recommendations for parking reported The Amarillo Globe-News.

Mike McAnelly is a planner for Jacobs, a consulting firm with offices in Dallas.

His recommendations include proceeding with a parking garage on South Buchanan Street that would serve the general public, convention hotel guests and people attending a variety of events at the proposed ballpark. In addition he suggested installing parking meters, first in a test area around the parking garage and possibly expanding to a two- or three-block radius.

Garage construction funding would come from city issued bonds to be repaid by hotel occupancy tax revenues, and hotel and retail tenants parking space rent.
