Officials from the City of Amarillo have begun crafting a plan for what to do if the coronavirus makes an appearance in the city.

In an official press release Casie Stoughton, Amarillo Director of Public Health, said the city “is collaborating with the medical community, schools, and state and national health officials regarding the coronavirus.”

The city recommends that residents maintain precautions, including washing hands with soap and water on a regular basis, avoiding touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands, avoiding close contact with people who are sick, and stay home when you are sick. The city also suggests that you cover your mouth with a tissue when coughing or sneezing, and dispose of the tissue in the trash.

There have as yet been no confirmed cases of coronavirus in Amarillo.
