Amarillo's Legislative Agenda Includes Big Ticket Items

Amarillo city leaders have released their proposed legislative agenda, and it includes a number of big-ticket items that will require approval by the Texas Legislature.

As The Amarillo Globe-News reports, the new plan includes operational funding for the Texas Tech University School of Veterinary Medicine and backing for the Texas Loop 335 expansion project.

According to City Manager Jared Miller, the city is hoping to obtain funding for the first four years of operations at the Tech veterinary school, until the school can get up on its feet. That cost alone will be almost $20 million.

Additional agenda items include funding for a Tourism Public Improvement District, an online sales tax remittance, property tax caps, and more funding for Amarillo College.

The Texas Legislature will convene in January to discuss how to allocate state funds.
