Marvell Ervin White is remembered in Amarillo as a community organizer and community activist.
Among her most notable accomplishments include organizing for a community center in Amarillo's North Heights district. White was honored as co-founder of the Amarillo United Citizens Forum, which saw the Cultural Center built in the early 1990's.Born in Oklahoma, White was one of the first two African-American's to graduate from West Texas State University, in 1962, according to the Amarillo Globe-News.
Over her career, White was an elementary school teacher and school counselor, and organized a Girl Scout troop, directed programming at a YMCA, supervised for Amarillo's Parks and Recreation Department, and was director of Our Community House.
