West Texas A&M University in Canyon is celebrating the establishment of its new Center for the Study of the American West by hosting a lecture this Thursday evening. Award-winning Colorado historian Patricia Limerick will give the inaugural Garry L. Nall Lecture in Western Studies.
Limerick’s presentation is entitled: “Both Stranger and Kin: Wrestling—Successfully!—with the Riddle of Texas’s Place in the American West.” This lecture is of interest to anyone engaged with how the West is thought of in the 21st century.
Patricia Limerick has long been recognized as one of the most important and influential scholars writing on the American West. She was named Colorado State Historian earlier this year, has been the recipient of a MacArthur “Genius” Grant, and is a former columnist for The New York Times and The Denver Post. Limerick was also recently named to the council of the National Endowment for the Humanities.
