Amarillo Mayor Ginger Nelson Announces Cancer Diagnosis

Amarillo Mayor Ginger Nelson announced on Thursday that she has been diagnosed with a form of blood cancer.

In a press release, Mayor Nelson wrote that the cancer was discovered during a routine blood examination.

Nelson insists that her prognosis is good, and she plans to continue her service as Mayor.

However, the cancer will require treatment, so Mayor Nelson will “be taking some time in the coming days” to focus on her health.

In the meantime, the Mayor has informed the City Council and City Manager of her illness, and these city leaders will continue the work of running Amarillo in Nelson’s absence.

Mayor Nelson concluded her press release by writing: “I am blessed by my Faith in God, my family, and the thousands of friends I have made throughout this city. Amarillo is a wonderful city and I am honored by the trust you have given me as your Mayor.”
