While Texas Governor Greg Abbott has agitated many on the left with his hardline stance on immigration, he has also managed to upset the right wing of his own party by being too lenient, reports The Texas Tribune.
Much of the rancor stems from Abbott’s decision to wait until after the 2017 Legislative session to propose reforms. “It’s not good enough,” said Katrina Pierson, a Dallas Tea Party spokesperson. “There’s no reason to put this off.”
Abbot has refused to call a special session on the issue, instead encouraging Texans to elect conservative leaders “so that we have enough votes to pass [reforms] in the next legislative session.”
