KJJP-FM 105.7 is currently operating at 15% of power, limiting its signal strength and range in the Amarillo-Canyon area. This due to complicated problems with its very old transmitter. Local engineers are continuing to work on the transmitter and are consulting with the manufacturer to diagnose and fix the problems. We apologize for this disruption and service as we work as quickly as possible to restore KJPFM to full power. In the mean time you can always stream either the HPPR Mix service or HPPR Connect service using the player above or the HPPR app.

Texas Dems See Hope in 2018

Public Domain

Over the past two decades, Texas Democrats have lost 123 consecutive statewide races. That’s  the longest losing streak of any state party in the country. But now, as Mother Jones reports, there may be a light at the end of the tunnel.

Democrat Beto O’Rourke, a candidate for the U.S Senate from West Texas, thinks the same frustration that brought Donald Trump to power can be used to thwart the Republican Party in Texas. O’Rourke speaks fluent Spanish and grew up a few miles from the Texas border.

He understands the immigration issue on a visceral, personal level. And he’s just one of a number of pols who see a change coming in Texas. Manny Garcia, deputy executive director of the Texas Democrats, says he’s preparing for “the best midterm of our lifetimes” for his party. And if the Dems can make a play in Texas, they may have written a blueprint for other states to follow.
