Overall corn production is expected to decrease slightly in Kansas but increase in Colorado.
According to Kansas Corn, in its October crop production estimate, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) is projecting Kansas corn production at 697 million bushels, down slightly from last year’s record harvest of 699 million bushels. NASS is predicting more harvested acres and a slightly higher yield.
NASS’s yield estimate for October is 134 bushels per acre.
Sorghum is estimated at 194 million bushels, down 28 percent from last year, and soybean production is projected at a record 209 million bushels. Cotton production is also a record forecast at 190,000 bales, up 168 percent from last year.
In Colorado, according to the Prowers Journal, the USDA is projecting a record 184.15 million bushels of corn this year – a 15 percent increase over last year. If realized, that projection would top the state’s previous record of 182.71 bushels per acre set in 2010.
