Attuned Tinkerer: New Exhibit by Rob Weingart Opens Thursday at WT in Canyon

There's nothing abstract about it. Art lovers of the TX Panhandle should mark their calendars for a new exhibition opening this Thursday night: "Attunement," featuring works by Rob Weingart.

Even when he’s just “wingin’ it,” WTAMU educator and artist Rob Weingart knows how to make his own sense of space. I was excited to chat with him last week about his work, especially as a collection of new work goes up this Thursday, March 3rd in Canyon TX. He’s calling it “Attunement,” a title that feels appropriate for these small-scale compositions that seem to be making a big announcement.

Rob’s new designs speak to how we might approach putting chaos into order, but in a language that no two people will hear in the same tongue. Often featuring found or scavenged cast-off materials, the effect is centering. And as we all navigate the third year of a global pandemic, there’s something soothing about staring into managed shapes, intentional patterns, loose lines, varying textures, and contrasting colors. His new designs tell distinctively human stories, though each story is open to the viewer’s interpretation.

Okay, enough dweebing out on art of the Texas Panhandle! See it for yourself this Thursday night, March 3rd. The opening reception kicks off “Attunement” from 5-7p CT at the Dord Fitz Formal Gallery in Mary Moody Northen Hall on campus at WTAMU in Canyon, TX.
