Kansas gained almost five thousand jobs in June and now has record employment for the state, reports The Kansas City Star. But those numbers belie a more trouble state of affairs. Kansas had the seventh worst job growth rate in the country over the past twelve months. The state’s growth rate inched along at only 0.2 percent.
For much of the last year, the Sunflower State has been among the bottom 10 in the nation for adding jobs. Other states with weak job growth included North Dakota, Wyoming, Alaska, Louisiana, and Kansas neighbor Oklahoma.
Governor Sam Brownback vowed upon his election that his 2012 tax cuts were going to stimulate a strong surge in the state’s employment numbers. Judging from these numbers, it appears the governor’s prediction hasn’t come true.
