Bird and habitat conservation organizations in 2016 will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the first international treaty to extend protections to migratory birds. In 1916, the United States and England, on behalf of Canada, signed a treaty protecting birds migrating across international boundaries. In the few years that followed, similar treaties were negotiated with other countries including Mexico, Russia and Japan. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service will be taking steps to educate the nation on the importance of extending protection to birds and bird habitats protection.
