Nation’s Largest Wind Farm Moves Closer To Completion In Oklahoma Panhandle

In the Oklahoma Panhandle, the nation’s largest wind farm is growing closer to completion by the day. As EcoWatch reports, the Wind Catcher Energy Connection project will include a massive 800-turbine wind farm.

This week, the project took a necessary step when Southwestern Electric Power Company reached an agreement with interested parties, including Walmart, allowing the wind farm to forward. The project is expected to cost $4.5 billion.

The wind farm now awaits approval from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, as well as utility commissions in Arkansas, Louisiana, Texas and Oklahoma. Once up and running, the wind project is expected to provide energy to customers in all four of those states.

The Oklahoma panhandle is considered an ideal site for the wind farm, due to its heavy winds and small population. However, a massive infrastructure will need to be built to carry the power to more populated areas.
