The National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) creates The Nation’s Report Card, a document that informs the public about the academic achievement of elementary and secondary students in the United States. The testing information available at this time compares 2009 test results to those gathered in 2011.
Here’s how high plains eighth grade students faired:
In math, Nebraska and Kansas student scores showed no significant change. Colorado, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Texas showed improvement.
In reading, Colorado was the only state showing improvement.
In science, Colorado showed improvement, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Texas had no change. Kansas and Nebraska data is not available.
State results were not available for the following areas: arts, civics, economics, geography, or U.S. history.
NAEP assessments have been conducted since 1969 in areas such as reading, mathematics, science, writing, U.S. history, civics, geography, and other subjects. Reporting is done at the national, state, and local level.
NAEP is a congressionally authorized project of the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) within the Institute of Education Sciences of the U.S. Department of Education.
