John Ewy is the legislator from the 117th district in the Kansas House of Representatives. He says one focus guides his voting.
“I think about that every time I sit down and there’s a bill to vote on,” Ewy said. “Number one, how is it going to affect the 117th district? How is it going to affect families?”
Here’s Ewy’s stance on current issues according to a recent article in the Dodge Globe.
Educational Funding The Kansas Supreme Court decision is crucial to this session’s work on educational funding. Ewy said that the issue comes down to a waiting game at this time, but senators and representatives are widely concerned with how to handle the court’s decision once it has been made.
Common Core This educational issue sets the standards for students in grades K through 12. Ewy says it is a positive measure.
“I have a lot of family members that are involved in education and I have a lot of family members in K through 12 education, and in my conversations with them… is it perfect? Probably not,” Ewy said. “But I am told by them that they have more of an opportunity to teach critical thinking skills.”
Mortgage Registration Fee Ewy says he supports the counties.
“I don’t want anything that causes us to raise property taxes in any way, shape or form,” he said. “I hope and pray we can continue to grow this economy,” he added. “I’m just concerned about helping keep our families afloat and keeping our small towns alive.”
K-State Research and Extension. Ewy praises the work being done in rural areas, including proposed drones for agricultural use.
Ewy was born and raised in Hodgeman County. He attended Dodge Community College, then Fort Hays State University where he obtained a degree in Broadcasting. He went on to earn a Master’s Degree in Education from Kansas State University.
