The Kansas House rejected a bill to repeal the state’s renewable energy standards. Kansas Public Radio reported the vote was 44-77.
The standards require 20 percent of the power generated in Kansas to come from renewable sources by 2020.
Representative Russ Jennings is a Republican from Lakin. He says, “We want to be a business friendly state. Let’s be business friendly to every kind of business including wind.”
Opponents of the standard say wind energy needs to compete on its own merit without state support.
The Senate passed the bill, but the House vote means the issue is stuck waving in the wind for now.
