Pot profits are working to better the lives of Coloradans of all stripes. The third largest city in Colorado has announced that it will divert $1.5 million in marijuana tax income toward helping the homeless. The city of Aurora has now designated a number of groups to receive the funds, reports The Huffington Post.

One group that supports poor families living in motels will receive $200,000. Other beneficiaries include a crisis center and a mental health organization, which will each receive vans to be used for homeless outreach. In addition to the homeless funds, another $700,000 will go to various other nonprofits in the area. And $2 million will go toward building a new recreation center in southeast Aurora.

One city councilman explained: “We wanted . . . to show citizens that we are having a positive impact on the community.”
