Texans may soon be able to purchase and openly carry firearms with no permit of any kind required, reports The Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
The gun proposal currently under consideration in the Texas House is known as Constitutional Carry. It would also ensure that Texans can carry guns without any required safety training.
State Rep. Jonathan Stickland, a Republican from Bedford, is the author of the bill. He called the introduction of the bill “a big day for many Texans.”
Andrea Brauer is the executive director of Texas Gun Sense, a group that opposes the measure. She says the bill puts the general public at risk. “Training shouldn’t be optional,” she said. “Licensing shouldn’t be optional.”
It’s not yet clear how many votes the bill will garner in the House or the Senate.
