KJJP-FM 105.7 is currently operating at very reduced power and signal range using a back-up transmitter. This is because of complicated problems with its very old primary transmitter. Local engineers are currently working on that transmitter and consulting with the manufacturer to diagnose and fix the problems. We apologize for this disruption and service as we work as quickly as possible to restore KJPFM to full power. In the mean time you can always stream either the HPPR mix service or HPPR connect service using the player above or the HPPR app.

TUNED IN: Welcome to Labor Day Weekend

Whatever your plans for this holiday weekend, we hope you will keep HPPR, either on the air or online, nearby. Allow us to share a couple of musings on Labor Day:

> Time Tells Its Own Story: A Labor Day Fable (From a 2012 column by Adam Frank):

“There is always that morning in late summer when you step outside and you can smell autumn. It's just a hint of a change, a certain kind of coolness and the color of the light, but you know it as soon as it hits. Some half a year later, the same recognition will hit again when the first scent of warm soil and growth tells you you're standing at the undefined cusp of late winter and early spring.”

> A Labor Day quiz. Sample question: Receiving more than 3 percent of the vote in his fifth attempt, what Socialist labor leader ran for president in 1920 while serving a 10-year sentence for sedition?

Click here to take the quiz.

> A 1925 observation on getting away from it all on Labor Day:

“Well is it named Labor Day, for travel is never so laborious as then.”

> An 1890 proclamation from Kansas Gov. Lyman U. Humphrey declaring Sept. 1 as Labor Day.

“It is hardly an exaggeration to say that the whole people of Kansas are laboring men and women.”

Please share this weekly update with your friends, family, neighbors, movie fans who never realized how committed one voice actress was to her role in “The Exorcist” (Seriously! She ate raw eggs and was strapped to a chair), people who plan to watch their step when tromping through the Connecticut woods, and sports fans who will be, um, a little distracted between now and the start of 2020.
