Whether it's "leaf" or "head," there's a lot to consider when it comes to planting lettuce on the High Plains.

The sight of a salad sure sings out memories of warmer seasons, and there's nothing quite like the zingy crunch of a well-dressed lettuce mix to perk you out of the winter doldrums. Today's episode of Growing on the High Plains evokes spring and summer, as we peel back the different varieties of lettuces. (Remember: picking the outside leaves gives you more greens for a little longer, prolonging these leafy delights.)
