Bowled Over: Empty Bowls 2019 in Canyon, TX on 4/23

HPPR thanks Jamie Adams for coming back to High Plains Morning to remind us that Empty Bowls 2019 is happening NEXT WEEK! This fabulous fundraiser was initially started by a high school teacher in Michigan in 1990 as a high school student project to help feed the needy and has grown into an international phenomenon. There are hundreds of Empty Bowls projects around the world, raising millions of dollars to feed the hungry and combat food insecurity.

Here’s how it works! For a $10 donation, the donor gets to keep a bowl of his or her choice and enjoy a simple meal of soup, dessert, and tea, served at a hosting facility (usually a church refectory). A silent auction of donated items also takes place as another means of raising money. Participants can drop in/eat anytime. 100% of proceeds go to a local organization combatting hunger and/or poverty.

This event will happen on Tuesday, April 23rd at First United Methodist Church (1818 4th Ave.) in Canyon, TX. There will be a lunch from 11:30 am - 1:00 pm, and a dinner from 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm. They hope to sell 350 bowls (many of which will be made from clay dug here in Randall and Potter County) and raise funds for Snack Pak 4 Kids in Canyon.

There are TWO chances to support this event!

LUNCH SESSION               11:30 am – 1 pm

DINNER SESSION              5:30 pm – 7:30 pm

Kids that are 12 years or younger will eat for free. Adults pay $10 for a bottomless bowl of homemade soup, chili, stew, and sides (e.g., salad, bread, etc.) There are also drinks and desserts. Plus, don’t miss the silent auction of donated items from area artists.
