Coming Soon to Rural America: Drone-Delivered Medicine

A company that delivers blood and medicine using drone technology is looking to expand its operations across the US, reports Consumerist.com. This could be great news for many Americans who live in rural and hard-to-reach areas.

The company, Zipline, began in Rwanda, where it was commissioned by the US government to get supplies to remote villages and homes.

Zipline’s CEO, Keller Rinaudo pointed out that there’s a linear relationship between how far away you live from a city and your expected lifespan. He said he hopes Zipline’s drones can solve those kinds of inequalities.

The Obama administration specifically invited the company to expand into the US market. But the process of getting a drone business going is still a slow one. Zipline expects to be in business delivering to remote areas and Native reservations in a year or so.
