An armed suspect barricaded himself in a Cheyenne Wells, Colorado home yesterday, forcing road closures and a daylong standoff with law enforcement before he was arrested.

According to the Cheyenne County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page, a gunshot was reported at around 6:30 a.m.  MT Wednesday morning in a Cheyenne Wells home on Highway 40. When deputies responded, an unidentified suspect allegedly fired the gun again. The suspect then barricaded himself inside the residence.

At approximately 9:54 a.m. MT Wednesday, law enforcement officials alerted residents via phone calls, text messages, emails and social media to stay indoors until the situation was resolved.

Law enforcement officials from multiple agencies remained on scene throughout the day.

At approximately 5:30 p.m. MT, officers entered the residence and found the suspect unresponsive but alive. He was arrested and taken into custody after being examined by medical staff.

The standoff resulted in the closure of several streets and highways but no injuries were reported.
