The USDA has released a list of retail chains that received E.coli-infected ground beef.
Tons of ground beef recalled from a Cargill Meat Solutions plant in Fort Morgan, Colorado, have been blamed for one death and 17 illnesses.
According to the USDA, the meat had been shipped to retail locations of Target, Safeway, Albertson’s and Meijer’s, nationwide, as well as Aldi stores in Iowa, Illinois, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma, and Wisconsin.
Other retailers on the list include Sam’s Club stores in North Carolina, Ohio and Virginia; and several other stores in California.
The items include three-, 10-, and 20-pound packages of ground beef under the Our Certified, Excel, Sterling Silver, Certified and Fire River Farms brands. It was packaged June 21 with the use-or-freeze-by date of July 11.
The products being recalled are marked with the establishment number “EST.86R” inside the USDA mark of inspection.
The USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service is concerned some consumers may have frozen the recalled beef and is urging those consumers not to eat those products.
Symptoms of E. coli infections include diarrhea and vomiting, with more severe infections potentially leading to kidney failure.
