TUNED IN: Notes from Bob Davis, executive director of High Plains Public Radio
As part of Garden City Arts’ First Friday Art Walk, works by Garden City artist Robin Valenzuela will be on display at HPPR Studios in Garden City (210 N. 7th St., Garden City, KS) on Friday, Sept. 7, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. A portion of the sales of Valenzuela’s art will go to support the mission of High Plains Public Radio.
Earlier this week, we asked Valenzuela to tell us a little more about her art. Here is her response: “Most of my work consists of colorful abstract (acrylic) art. Each one has a theme which is sometimes difficult for the viewer to see. But, I enjoy giving them something that will challenge what they already perceive. Using color, texture, shapes, and movement, my abstracts are strong … not shy at all. The most repeated comment I receive is, ‘I just love your colors!’ ”
Here’s her bio: “Mostly self-taught, Robin currently utilizes acrylic paints, particularly using the blending powers of high flow acrylics. She loves how the colors combine to create organic shapes and how they flow together to make textural values. Robin has two associates degrees, one from Garden City Community College and one in Apparel Design & Illustration from Wade College, Dallas. She now works full time in her dream career as artist, artrepreneur, and freelance graphic designer. Prior to 2017, she worked (over 15 years) as a graphic designer and pre-press expert for a small printing company. There, she learned a great deal about the printing process and now incorporates that skill to reproduce many of her artworks, along with digital art, into other products for your home.”
