Food For Thought: Vi Cornett, “Cultivating Stories: How Family Recipes Nourish Our Roots and Our Words”

Food For Thought: Vi Cornett, “Cultivating Stories: How Family Recipes Nourish Our Roots and Our Words”

Violet Cornett currently serves as the full-time Bookkeeper and ESL Instructor at Pioneer Memorial Library, where she began working in 2020. She also proudly wears several other hats, including being the owner of Brewing Up Words bookstore and a new Adjunct Spanish Instructor for the Agriculture Department at Colby Community College.

A proud member of REFORMA an association that promotes library and information services to Latinos and Spanish speakers, she now serves on its board as Treasurer. She is passionate about building puentes—bridges—through language, culture, and community engagement.

Teaching English to adult learners is one of her greatest joys, as it allows her to share her culture and personal stories while helping others find their voice in a new language. She has authored three children’s Spanglish books and actively works to strengthen connections within the Latino community.

She is delighted to present “Cultivating Stories: How Family Recipes Nourish Our Roots and Our Words” at the Prairie Museum of Art & History. She hopes to continue building bridges, one page at a time, connecting libraries, communities, and cultures.

Join us at March's Food For Thought for Violet's presentation!
