Julie and John Pennell have been performing as a bluegrass duo since 2008.

John, a well-known and much-respected songwriter, has lived in Nashville since 1996. He has a rich and diverse musical background having studied classical guitar, performed jazz as a bass and trumpet player, played blues, bluegrass, and country.

Julie and John met in 2000 and married in 2004. Julie had already been writing and performing music in Canada prior to their meeting and had gained respect and recognition by the bluegrass community in Ontario, having had several of her songs recorded and performed. As well as being a talented song writer, Julie is also a wonderful singer and instrumentalist, playing guitar, banjo, dobro, and mountain dulcimer. John plays upright bass and guitar in their ensemble, as well as providing harmony and occasional lead vocals. Julie and John continue to cultivate their creative, musical relationship while raising their two daughters, Eva and Nicole.
