The Summer Olympics are just around the corner, and the Houston Chronicle publisheda list of 25 of the best all-time Olympians from Texas. One athlete from the HPPR listening area made the list.

Pampa native Randy Matson won golds in 1964 and '68 as a shot putter. Matson was also a Texas A&M graduate. Other notable Texans on the list include Bobby Morrow, a sprinter from San Benito and Abilene Christian, who won three golds in 1956. There was also Babe Didrikson Zaharias, who won two golds and a silver in track and field in 1932. And of course the legendary Houston sprinter Carl Lewis, who won gold in four different Olympics.

Some Texans are expected to make a splash at this year’s games.  These include gymnast Simone Biles, Taekwondo champion Steven Lopez, and trap shooter Glenn Eller III. All three hail from Houston.
